Poisoning Pigeons in the Park
Tom Lehrer

CA7 D7G7 Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
CA7 D7G7 Life is skittles and life is beer.
CG7 CG7 C I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
A7D7 G7 Dont you? Of course you do.
Dm C But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
D7 GG7 And makes every Sunday a treat for me.
C ‑ All the world seems in tune on a spring afternoon,
C G7 When were poisoning pigeons in the park.
Dm ‑ Every Sunday you'll see my sweetheart and me,
G7 C As we poison the pigeons in the park.
F C When they see us coming, the birdies all try anhide,
D7 G7 But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
C ‑ The sun's shining bright, everything seems all right,
D7G7 C When were poisoning pigeons in the park.
G7 C Weve gained notoriety and caused much anxiety
G7 C In the Audubon Society with our games.
A7 D They call it impiety and lack of propriety,
A7 DG And quite a variety of unpleasant names.
D7 G But it's not against any religion
D7 G7 To want to dispose of a pigeon.
C ‑ So if Sunday you're free, why don't you come with me,
C G7 And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
Dm ‑ And maybe well do in a squirrel or two,
G7 C While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
F C We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment,
D7 G7 Ex cept for the few we take home to experiment.
C ‑ My pulse will be quikenin with each drop of strychnine
D7G7 D7G7 We feed to a pigeon, it just takes a smidgen!
D7G7 C To poison a pigeon in the park.
